Fantasy Football’s Top Tight Ends In 2024

With the conclusion of the 2024 NFL season at hand, lets take a look at who shinned the brightest in the TE position.

One thing to note is that I listed only 10 top QBs because you only use 1 in your starting line up in most leagues. The same is true with TEs, so I will only list 10 as well.

With RBs and WRs, you may have as many as 3 in your starting line up, so it’s worth looking further down the line as to who are on top.

Another thing I’d like to point out is that George Kittle, the top fantasy point scoring TE, had less fantasy points than the 15th ranked RB, and the 10th ranked WR. So don’t be fooled into thinking you need to draft a TE in the 1st few rounds. Get those higher fantasy point scoring players first.

With all of that, lets go ahead and jump into the top fantasy TEs for 2024.

49ers TE George Kittle 2024

1. George Kittle, San Francisco 49ers (159 Total FPts, 10.6 FPts/G) – The 49ers had a disappointing tumultuous season, and the only player that seemed to be dependable week in and week out was Kittle. I had Kittle 4th in my pre-season predictions, and he out-performed expectations for most people. Having missed 2 games with injuries, Kittle still corralled 78 receptions for 1,106 yards and 8 TDs, to earn the TE1 honors for the 2024 season. He’ll be entering his 9th season in 2025, and I believe he still has at least a few top tier seasons left in him.

2. (R) Brock Bowers, Las Vegas Raiders (151 Total FPts, 8.9 FPts/G) – Bowers was one of the few pieces in the Raiders’ offense that fans were left feeling good about at the conclusion of the 2024 season. He broke all-time TE records for most receptions and receiving yards in a season for a rookie, and may be the best TE in the NFL in the foreseeable future. Even with subpar quarterback play, Bowers still had 112 receptions for 1,194 yards and 5 TDs.

3. Trey McBride, Arizona Cardinals (139 Total FPts, 8.7 FPts/G) – McBride is another young, talented TE, with a bright future. I thought McBride would have an improved season in 2024, but not necessarily to this degree, ranking him only 10th in my pre-season predictions. His 1,146 receiving yards was 2nd only to Bowers among TEs, as was his 111 receptions, but his lack of TDs was frustrating for fantasy owners all season. He didn’t score a TD until week 17 in fact. If the Cardinals look to target McBride a little more in the end zone, he could be a top 3 TE in 2025, and years to come.

4. Jonnu Smith, Miami Dolphins (134 Total FPts, 7.9 FPts/G) – Smith has always been a pretty good TE, but not one that fantasy owners were interested in. His talents didn’t show up on the stat sheet, so he wasn’t racking up fantasy points. In 2024 however, he had career highs in receptions (88), receiving yards (884), and TDs (8), which proved to be more enticing for fantasy owners.

5. Mark Andrews, Baltimore Ravens (134 Total FPts, 7.9 FPts/G) – Andrews was actually my pre-season #1 ranked TE. He had a very slow start to the season, to the point that I was wondering if he was injured and not telling the public, or if he had just completely fallen off, as some professional athletes sometimes do. In week 6, he caught his first TD, and after that, he became the Andrews we had become accustom to over the past 6 years, averaging 10 fantasy points per game. He finished the season with 55 receptions for 673 yards and his 11 receiving TDs was ranked 1st among TEs. With the young talent coming into the league and the Ravens going into a double tight formation, Andrew may not be a #1 fantasy TE again, but he’ll remain towards the top.

6. Sam LaPorta, Detroit Lions (115 Total FPts, 7.2 FPts/G) – LaPorta exploded onto the scene as a rookie in 2023, playing in one of the NFL’s most explosive offenses. So naturally, I ranked him as high as #2 in my pre-season predictions, and I think many “experts” in the fantasy world were of the same opinion. Like Andrews, LaPorta got off to a slow start, scored a TD in week 6, took off from there and should be a top 5 TE in 2025.

7. Tucker Kraft, Green Bay Packers (113 Total FPts, 6.7 FPts/G) – Kraft just doesn’t get the targets needed to be a top producing TE in fantasy. Packers HC Matt LaFleur said he admits they need to create a more featured role for the young physical TE, but until we see that on a more consistent basis, Kraft remains a TD reliant TE for fantasy, which means its really hit or miss whether he’s worth having in your line up or not. He may have had 50 receptions for 707 yards and 7 TDs, but a good majority of that production was within 3 or 4 games.

Washington Commanders TE Zach Ertz 2024

8. Zach Ertz, Washington Commanders (111 Total FPts, 6.7 FPts/G) – Ertz has spent the past couple of years dealing with injuries and was a name from the past for fantasy owners. Then in 2024 he signed with the Commanders who drafted rookie QB phenom Jayden Daniels. Ertz was able to stay relatively healthy all season and was a strong veteran presence to Washington’s young players. The young players also seemed to provide a fountain of youth for him as he played like he did in his prime with Philadelphia. Ertz finished the season with 66 receptions for 654 yards and 7 TDs helping his young team eventually get to the NFC Championship.

9. Pat Freiermuth, Pittsburgh Steelers (103 Total FPts, 6.1 FPts/G) – Freiermuth is a good TE, who is used for things other than heavy volume pass catching. Therefore his fantasy value is limited. One thing Freiermuth did very well in 2024 was catch the ball. He has always had pretty good hands, but in 2024 in particular, his receptions often matched the same number of his targets in a game. He only needed 78 targets to haul in a career high 65 receptions, that went for 653 yards and 7 TDs. Like Kraft, he’s TD reliant in fantasy and should be viewed upon as a back up TE at best.

10. Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs (98 Total FPts, 6.2 FPts/G) – In a season that felt like Kelce was completely irrelevant, he had 97 receptions (3rd among TEs) for 823 yards (5th among TEs)!I find those numbers hard to believe! There’s no denying that he’s starting to slow down a little after 12 years in the NFL. I wasn’t ready for it yet, having him ranked 3rd in my pre-season rankings, but that was largely based on QB Patrick Mahomes being the QB, and Kelce having eclipsing well over 1,000 receiving yards in 7 straight seasons. It will be worth monitoring the Chief’s off season to evaluate the chances of Kelce being a top 10 fantasy TE anymore.

That’s a wrap on the top fantasy Tight Ends of the 2024 season. I appreciate you stopping by and taking a look! Let me know which Tight Ends you like for the 2025 season in the comments below! I’ll be putting out my first top 10 prediction list some time soon after Super Bowl, so be sure to look for it!

  1. Hey Mike, great rundown of the top TEs! Really appreciate the context you provided at the beginning about not necessarily needing to grab a TE in the first few rounds – that’s solid advice. And it’s wild to see how Kittle still performed so well even with the 49ers’ QB situation. Bowers’ rookie season was insane too – definitely exciting to see what he can do going forward.

I’m curious, though – you mentioned Kraft needing more targets to be a consistent fantasy option, which makes sense. Do you think that’s likely to happen in 2025, or is it more of a wait-and-see situation? Also, what’s your take on the impact of a good QB on a TE’s fantasy performance? Obviously, someone like Kelce benefits from Mahomes, but are there any TEs you think could break out because of a QB change or improved offensive scheme? Thanks for the insights!

    • Hey Chris!

I really appreciate you taking the time to leave some great comments and questions!

Yes, Kittle and Bowers were both amazing TEs in 2024, and as a Raider fan, I’m extremely excited to see what Bowers does in years to come.

If you look at the Raiders, Brock Bowers set all time rookie records with below average quarterback play all season.  I think with TEs, there are a number of factors as to how valuable they are in fantasy, but the biggest factor often is if a team has good WRs. When they do, the tight end gets less targets, making it harder to score fantasy points.  Obviously the TE needs to be a pass catcher to have fantasy value, but I think the surrounding cast will have the biggest impact on that value.

  2. Hi,

Great review of NFL tight ends! I’ve been a Chiefs’ fan for over 50 years, so I have really enjoyed watching Travis Kelce and Mahomes together. Like many fans, I was also disappointed in this season for him. I’m sure age has a lot to do with, but I also wonder if opponents were covering him differently, making it more difficult for him to be open. Really excited for the Super Bowl and I’ll be sure to check your prediction list.

Great to see you again!  It’s been such a great run for the Chiefs since Mahomes has come into the league!  Kelce has enjoyed great success along with Mahomes and the team.  I believe Kelce is 35, which is getting old for an NFL player, so age probably has at least a little to do with slowing down a little bit.  We have this wave of young great TEs in the NFL right now who I believe will start to replace Kelce in the top tier of fantasy TEs, but unless he decides to retire, I wouldn’t completely count him out yet!
