Fantasy Football Studs & Duds 2024 – Week 10

Just another week of NFL in the books, starting with a game for the ages on Thursday Night Football. As usual, this slate of games was filled with spectacular highlights, sprinkled in with some dud performances. Hey, every game can’t be your best. So let’s dive right in and check out who shined, and who under performed.

Quarterbacks

Studs:

QB Joe Burrow show frustration after loss to Ravens week 10

Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals – Just 1 week after dropping 5 TDs on the Las Vegas Raiders, Burrow threw for a personal season high of 428 yards and 4 TDs in a thrilling 34-35 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. His 34 completions on 56 pass attempts are also both season highs. Cincinnati’s defense has had a hard time stopping the opposition this year, but Burrow has been doing everything he can to lead his team to a win, including being fantasy’s QB1 for a second consecutive week.

Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens – On the other side of Thursday night’s shootout, was Jackson, who was equally impressive as Burrow, missing fantasy’s QB1 title for the week by less than 1 fantasy point. These two quarterbacks threw haymakers back and forth, with Jackson passing for 290 yards and a quartet of TDs as well. Jackson added 33 rushing yards and a 2 point conversion to his stat line, leading his team to victory on the field.

Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles – Hurts just continues to be a fantasy goldmine week in and week out. His passing yards remain modest, only passing for 202 yards in this weeks 34-6 blowout win against the Cowboys, but his TDs make him a fantasy owner’s MVP. In the past 4 weeks, He’s rushed for a total of 8 TDs, 2 of them coming this week. Passing for 2 additional TDs and rushing for 56 yards puts him towards the top of the list for fantasy QBs.

Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals – I’ve been admittedly critical of Murray, based off of past year’s performances. I’m still a little skeptical how he’ll look around week 15, but for now, Murray has been pretty good. Last week, he was featured in my duds list, but he bounced back beautifully completing 22 of his 24 attempted passes for 266 yards and 1 TD. For the Murray fantasy owners, he added 21 yards and 2 TDs rushing, putting him on the studs list for week 10.

Honorable Mentions:

Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers – 25/36 passing for 353 yards and 2 TDs

Derek Carr, New Orleans Saints – 16/25 passing for 269 yards and 2 TDs

Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills – 22/37 passing for 280 yards and 2 INTs; 50 yards rushing and 1 TD

Duds:

Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears – This is the 3rd consecutive week Williams has made the duds list, and the 2nd in 3 weeks he’s at the top. It’s becoming painfully obvious that the Bears are in absolute disarray, and the rookie QB is suffering because of it. I would imagine HC Matt Eberflus will be fired at the end of the year, if not in-season. In week 10, Williams completed 16 of his 30 passes, for a mere 120 yards in an embarrassing 3-19 loss to the lowly Patriots.

Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders – Williams was the #1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, and Daniels was drafted next. It’s hard to tell which is the better QB this early into their careers, but Daniels has had the better season. He was also put into a better situation. Daniels has been mostly solid for being a rookie QB, unfortunately in week 10 he had a dud. He completed only 17 of his 34 passes for 202 yards but no TDs, passing or rushing, in a tight loss to the Steelers.

Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Despite holding off star edge rusher Nick Bosa with one hand while completing a difficult pass on 4th down, one of the highlight plays of the day, Mayfield had a tough fantasy day. He’s been a pleasant surprise this season in fantasy having multiple stellar games. Unfortunately in week 10, he only completed 18 of his 29 passes for 116 yards and 1 TD, also losing a fumble.

Wide Receivers

Studs:

WR Ja'Marr Chase v Baltimore week 10

Ja’Marr Chase, Cincinnati Bengals – In 2021, as a rookie, Chase set a franchise record of 266 yards receiving. He fell short of that record by 2 yards this week, adding 3 TDs, for an absolute monster fantasy day. This marks the 3rd time this season a QB/WR duo make the top of the list in their prospective positions, this being Chase’s 2nd WR1 title, both against the Ravens. Unfortunately for the Bengals, a 4-6 record is all they have to show for it.

Marquez Valdez-Scantling, New Orleans Saints – MVS was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2018 and then released after the 2021 season. He then signed with the Kansas City Chiefs and won back to back Super Bowls with them in ’22 & ’23. He was then released by the Chiefs and signed with the Buffalo Bills for the 2024 season, who then released him 6 games into the season immediately after acquiring WR Amari Cooper. Saints WR Rashid Shaheed hurt his knee and is out for the season, so they swooped in and signed MVS, who got his opportunity to step up with WR Chris Olave out in concussion protocol. MVS, who only had 3 catches for 31 yards all season thus far, snagged all 3 of his targets on Sunday for 109 yards and 2 TDs!

Calvin Ridley, Tennessee Titans – Ridley earned the honors of fantasy’s WR1 in week 2. He then proceeded to have back to back games where he found himself on the duds list in weeks 3 & 4. The Titans had a bye, and then returned to action in week 6, where Ridley was deserving of the duds list again, but I gave up on any expectations for him, so I left him off. After a few weeks of solid play, Ridley earned a spot on the studs list again hauling in 5 passes for 84 yards and 2 acrobatic TDs. As you can see, Ridley is going to be a very boom or bust kind of WR moving forward.

Honorable Mentions:

Tylan Wallace, Baltimore Ravens – 3/3 receptions for 115 yards and 1 TD

George Pickens, Pittsburgh Steelers – 5/7 receptions for 91 yards and 1 TD

Duds:

Brian Thomas Jr., Jacksonville Jaguars – I don’t like putting rookies on my duds list. You have to expect rookies to have a bad game here and there, so it’s almost more of an honor to make this list, because it means you’ve done well enough to have gained expectations. Regardless, minus the Jags starting QB, Trevor Lawrence, who is out with a shoulder injury, this receiving core is suffering, including Thomas Jr., who only caught 2 passes for 12 yards.

DeVonta Smith, Philadephia Eagles – Like Ridley, Smith can be a bit hit or miss. They both can operate as deep threats, so they don’t always get as many targets or receptions. Such was the case Sunday where Smith only had 2 receptions for 14 yards after back to back games of 85+ receiving yards and 1 TD each.

CeeDee Lamb, Dallas Cowboys – Lamb is another victim of poor quarterback play. The Cowboy’s starting QB, Dak Prescott, is out for the season with a hamstring injury. So now Dallas’ receiving core will suffer like Jacksonville. The WR position is very dependent on other positions to do their job well. One year ago, Lamb was one of the most dangerous weapons in the entire NFL. Now, in week 10, he caught 6 passes for a mere 21 yards, in a 6-34 blowout to the Eagles.

Running Backs

Studs:

RB Bijan Robinson v Saints week 10

Bijan Robinson, Atlanta Falcons – For the 5th consecutive week, Robinson has eclipsed 100 yards from scrimmage. In his sophomore season, Robinson is 4th among RBs in total fantasy points in standard leagues. In week 10, he carried the ball 20 times for 116 yards and 2 TDs, to earn his first RB1 title, but it wasn’t quite enough, as the Falcons fell to the Saints, 17-20.

Chuba Hubbard, Carolina Panthers – Not many here on the west coast witnessed Hubbard running all over the NY Giants live in Munich, Germany, as it started at 6:30am Pacific Standard Time. I turned it on to Hubbard scoring a TD in the 3rd quarter, and saw that he was well into a monster day. He finished the day running for 153 yards and said TD, on a season high 28 carries, in an OT victory 20-17.

James Conner, Arizona Cardinals – I see Conner as an overlooked, underrated RB. Aside from 2 tough games against really solid defenses in Detroit and Green Bay, Conner has been really strong all season. He is one of 8 RBs who are over 900 yards from scrimmage, and has 5 rushing TDs. In week 10, he only rushed for 33 yards, finding the end zone once, but was also able to haul in 5 of his 5 targets receiving, for 80 yards, in a dominate win over the NY Jets, 31-6.

Austin Ekeler, Washington Commanders – The days of Ekeler being one of the top fantasy RBs have come and gone, but with a fresh start in Washington, Ekeler has proven he can still contribute to a winning team. Half the time Ekeler is picking up more yards receiving than rushing. In week 10, his 2 rushing TDs earned him a spot on the studs list, even though he only rushed for 44 yards.

Honorable Mentions:

Joe Mixon, Houston Texans – 46 rushing yards and 1 TD; 2 receptions for 44 yards

Bucky Irving, Tampa Bay Buccaneers – 73 rushing yards and 1 TD

James Cook, Buffalo Bills – 80 rushing yards and 1 TD

Tyrone Tracy, NY Giants – 103 rushing yards and 1 TD; 1 lost fumble

Duds:

Travis Etienne, Jacksonville Jaguars – I’ve been a fan of Etienne for a while, and thought he had an opportunity to have a really good season this year. He has been a bit underwhelming though, even before he missed a couple games with an injury. In week 10, Tank Bigsby went down with an ankle injury, and Etienne still only carried the ball 11 times for 44 yards against a tough Minnesota defense. The Jags have a stretch from last week against Philadelphia, to next week at Detroit where they face 3 of the toughest run defenses in the NFL, so Etienne may not fare any better next week.

De’Von Achane, Miami Dolphins – The Dolphins got the win, despite not being able to get any resemblance of a run game going. Achane was given 12 carries against an opportunistic Rams defense, but was only able to muster up 37 yards.

Tight Ends

Studs:

TE Mark Andrews v Cincinnati week 10

Mark Andews, Baltimore Ravens – Andrews just hasn’t been featured in the offense like he has been in the past. He got more offensive snaps this week while fellow TE Isaiah Likely is injured, and made the best of it Thursday night in an offensive shootout, catching 6 passes for 68 yards and 1 TD. Not a big day in the NFL for TEs, for a 6-68-1 stat line to earn a TE1 title for the week. None the less, Andrews earns that title this week in a 35-34 win against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Sam LaPorta, Detroit Lions – La Porta has been very hit or miss this season, but on Sunday night he hit. For only the 3rd time this season, LaPorta found pay dirt. He had 3 receptions for 66 yards as well.

Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs – After a very slow start to the season for Kelce standards, he has come on strong over the past 3 weeks, having more targets (40) then the other 6 weeks combined (36). With that he brought in 32 passes for 254 yards and 2 TDs. In week 10, he had 8 receptions for 64 yards and 1 TD.

Honorable Mentions:

George Kittle, SF 49ers – 3 receptions for 57 yards and 1 TD

Tanner Hudson, Cincinnati Bengals – 6 receptions for 42 yards and 1 TD

Duds:

Jake Ferguson, Dallas Cowboys – As is with the rest of Dallas’ pass catchers, Ferguson suffered from bad quarterback play. On a day where the Boys only produced 66 passing yards, Ferguson accounted for 24 of them, but lost his fantasy points for those yards with a lost fumble.

Cole Kmet, Chicago Bears – The Bears are a mess, and rookie QB Caleb Williams seems to have lost his confidence because of it. So, same as the Cowboys, Bears pass catchers will suffer until Williams can work through it. Kmet has always been kind of hit or miss anyway, but Sunday, he was only able to wrangle in 2 passes for 13 yards.

Defense/Special Teams

Studs:

Philadelphia Eagles – As you can probably imagine, with multiple Dallas players on duds lists, the opposition’s defense probably looked pretty good. Philadelphia held Dallas to 6 points, partially because Dallas lost 4 fumbles. Philly was also able to record 3 sacks and come up with an INT.

Buffalo Bills – The Bills gave up 20 points to Indianapolis ( a chunk of that coming in garbage time where the Bills knew they had the game in the bag), but were still able to please Bills fantasy owners with 4 sacks, 3 INTs,

Duds:

Chicago Bears – The Bears have been consistently solid all season, but they needed this defense to step up against a bag New England team. The Bears D did come up with an INT, but 1 sack was the only other stat recorded as they gave up 19 points in the loss.

  1. Great breakdown of Week 10’s fantasy football highlights! Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson truly put on a show in that Thursday night thriller, and it’s exciting to see players like Ja’Marr Chase and Bijan Robinson delivering massive fantasy points for their managers. The struggles for rookies like Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels are tough to watch, but they still have time to turn it around. Also, props to the Eagles’ defense for stepping up in a big way against the Cowboys. Can’t wait to see who shines in Week 11!

    • JealousLi,

Thanks so much for checking out my article and leaving your thoughts!

Traditionally, Ravens/Bengals games are a defensive slug fest.  Not this year!  They put on quite a display both games!

Yes, rookies will have tough games, but I think both of these quarterbacks will be really good in years to come.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see Daniels finish strong and get his team into the playoffs.

I’ll have my weekly edition of studs and duds out next week for the NFL’s week 11.  Be sure to check it out!
