Fantasy Football Analysis Team By Team 2024-AFC West

Now that the NFL 2024 draft is complete, teams are now, for the most part, done with transactions, working with the roster they now have, and getting into training camps. We can now start to analyze players without wondering if they will soon be in an entirely different situation with a new team, for the up coming season. We can look at the players around them, coaching, and even schedule, to help predict the statistical outcome of a players season. Let’s take a look at each team and the fantasy impact players on them. (Note: teams are in order in which I predict they will finish in their division)

Kansas City Chiefs

Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes

Travis Kelce (L) chatting with Patrick Mahomes (R).

The Chiefs did very little in the off season as far as fantasy goes, so it will be the usual suspects again for them. The acquisition of WR Marquise Brown, may strengthen the Chiefs WR room, but will have very little fantasy value.

Of course QB Patrick Mahomes is the head of the snake in that offense and should be a top 5 fantasy QB. His favorite target, TE Travis Kelce, should get plenty of targets and be a top 5 fantasy TE as well.

RB Isiah Pacheco has gained a larger role in the offense, and has clearly taken the RB1 spot from fellow RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Pacheco made a jump in fantasy numbers last year, compared to his previous rookie season, and I’m guessing he will only continue to improve upon those numbers in 2024. Pacheco could very well end up a top 10 fantasy RB this up coming season.

WR Rashee Rice finished his 2023 rookie campaign strong, and looked to be the Chiefs WR1 in 2024. Unfortunately, Rice had some off field troubles, and is likely facing a suspension from the NFL. The length of said suspension is still unknown, but you should probably go ahead and assume he misses the first couple of games or more. Keep a close eye on that before any drafts, so you can take that into consideration as to how early to draft him. He can still be a top 20 WR in 2024, especially with Mahomes being the guy slinging it to him.

Las Vegas Raiders

Gardner Minshew

Gardner Minshew working out with his new team.

Las Vegas has made some interesting moves this off season, and I’ve heard an assortment of opinions as to whether it will help HC Antonio Pierce and the Raiders win games or not. Regardless, we’re talking fantasy here, and I think the Raiders offense will really benefit from the addition of QB Gardner Minshew. Minshew will be entering his 6th year as a pro, and has shown at times that he can be a very serviceable QB. Although he will probably have little fantasy value himself, I do believe Minshew’s distribution of the pig skin will boost fantasy value for other Raider skill players.

Even though WR Davante Adams had 103 receptions in 2023, he had a little bit of a down year in fantasy, compared to his previous 7 seasons. I believe the addition of Minshew will not only help Adams bring those fantasy numbers back up, but Adams being WR1 will help Minshew as well.

The addition of Minshew should also be beneficial to WR2 Jakobi Meyers, helping him crack the top 20 for WRs in fantasy.

It will be interesting to see how the Raiders handle the TE room. They drafted TE Michael Mayer in 2023, with high expectations in him. I don’t believe they were expecting TE Brock Bowers to still be available at number 13 in the 2024 draft, but since he was, he was too good of a talent to pass on. Mayer had very little fantasy value his rookie season. Prior to the draft, the word was that Mayer’s volume would increase, which also increases fantasy value. Now, the Raiders have Bowers, who more than likely will make an immediate impact. I just can’t tell if that will decrease Mayer’s projected volume, or not. Bowers will certainly be higher on the list of fantasy TEs, possibly even a top 5. Mayer, on the other hand, may still have little fantasy value.

Since Las Vegas let all pro RB Josh Jacobs get away in free agency, RB Zamir White will look to fill Jacob’s role. If White’s final 4 games in 2023 is any indication, he potentially could be a top 10 fantasy RB.

Los Angeles Chargers

I believe newly acquired HC Jim Harbaugh wanted to hit the reset button in Los Angeles. After he was hired, the Chargers let RB Austin Ekeler walk, traded WR Keenan Allen, and released WR Mike Williams, leaving QB Justin Herbert with a whole new crew of starting skill players.

Despite Herbert’s high level of skill at the QB position, he hasn’t been much of a fantasy option for a few years now. And now he just lost his top 3 play makers to boot. I wouldn’t look to Herbert as a viable QB option if fantasy, in 2024.

The Chargers did acquire RB J.K. Dobbins, who had spurts of greatness his rookie season, but has suffered 3 major injuries the following 3 seasons. He missed all of 2021 with a knee injury, was lost for the season after 8 games in 2022 due to another knee injury, and tore his Achilles in game 1 of 2023, ending that season. Dobbins may be a nice steal in late rounds, but I wouldn’t put much stock into him having a full, successful fantasy season.

The Chargers may have some young players burst onto the scene, who are either rookies, or just haven’t had much impact yet, that you might want to look to acquire onto your fantasy team through the waiver wire later in the season. But as of now, I don’t see any Chargers I’ll look to draft prior to the 10th round.

Denver Broncos

Denver seems to still be in a rebuild mode in HC Sean Payton’s 2nd year with the Broncos. They decided to move off from QB Russell Wilson leaving them with $85m in dead-cap money, which is detrimental to them building a roster.

They drafted QB Bo Nix, out of Oregon, with their 1st pick (12th overall), acquired QB Jarett Stidham one year ago, and just acquired QB Zack Wilson this off season in free agency. None of these QBs are fantasy options, but which one will behind center to get the ball out to the WRs?

I believe WR Courtland Sutton to be a talented receiver, especially in the end zone. However, he hasn’t proven to be a fantasy WR1 with his overall production.

The Broncos believe WR Marvin Mims to have a breakout season in 2024 as a 2nd year player.

RB Javonte Williams is potentially a RB2, so you may look to draft him in later rounds.

  1. This breakdown of the AFC West’s fantasy prospects is incredibly insightful! I particularly appreciate the detailed analysis of each team’s key players and potential impacts.

For the Kansas City Chiefs, it’s reassuring to see the confidence in Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce remaining top fantasy picks. Isiah Pacheco’s growth is also exciting. His potential as a top 10 RB could be a game-changer for many fantasy teams. The Raiders’ acquisition of Gardner Minshew is intriguing. While he may not be a top fantasy QB himself, his impact on Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers could be substantial.

Overall, this article provides a fantastic snapshot of what to expect from the AFC West this season. Looking forward to seeing how these predictions play out and how the season unfolds. Great job!
